A Piano Portrait
Now and then I get what feels like a one-of-a-kind commission, and photographing Jesse at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance was one of them.
My big regret of this shoot is not bringing my audio recorder with me. I asked Jesse to play whilst I worked on making images around him.
The next hour or so was some of the most incredible musicianship I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing up close. As the sun went down outside, the room was filled with classical, jazz, and moments of the blues. It washed over me as I photographed, my daughter sat with Jesse’s mum. Listening and talking quietly about schools and GCSEs.
An event shoot and a reprise of ‘the mattress’ headshot
Over a year ago, I had the opportunity to create a distinctive headshot for Hansbart Wijnand, EVP of Tempur Sealy International, using one of their own signature mattress covers as a backdrop—an image that blended brand identity with portraiture. Fast forward to last month, and I was back, this time capturing a broader cross-section of their international leadership team during a networking and training event in London.
In this post, I’ll share how I recreated the original portrait setup, navigated the logistical quirks of a mobile studio, and documented a fast-paced, energising day of corporate connection that included analogue snapshots and playground games.
Tricia Duffy, Lifestyle Shoot
Tricia Duffy is a multifaceted professional, excelling as a songwriter, podcaster, public speaker, creativity coach, and management consultant. I collaborated with her to plan, photograph, and curate a versatile lifestyle image library, ensuring she has high-quality photographs readily available for her public speaking engagements, writing projects, performances, and other opportunities.
Client Shoot - Ellie
Timeless photography isn’t neccessarily about the look of the image. When it comes to actors headshots the session itself needs to be without time constraints so that the creative collaboration between sitter and photographer can develop.
The Colourist
This week has all gone a bit ‘meta’ as I find myself colour grading a photo of someone that is, in turn, colour grading a video.
In this post I share a little of my process for retouching and colour grading images and how adding or removing colour impacts the story an image is trying to convey.
Tempur headshot shoot
Corporate headshots need not be boring, and posing against a white, black or otherwise plain background is a missed opportunity to embed within the image a hint towards the brand of the company you work for or the ethos and attitude you want to project.
For this shoot I used the client’s distinct patterned product as a backdrop that can be replicated for their leadership team around the world.
Lalique Antique Glass
René Jules Lalique was a French jeweller and glass designer known for his creations of glass art, perfume bottles, vases, jewellery, chandeliers, clocks, and automobile hood ornaments.
In April 2023 I was commissioned by a private collector of the Lalique hood ornaments to create a photographic catalogue of the collection. Some of the images would be used to sell items from the collection, the other images would be used for a website documenting the collection.
Ian the Drummer
Read about the process behind a commission from a session drummer and music teacher who wanted to tick of ‘commission personal photo shoot’ from his bucket list.
At a rehearsal studio in Surrey we created a whole range of photos to choose from that were then printed and framed by an award winning commercial printer.
